Most AI receptionist price lists are written for offices with a front desk. A one truck HVAC or plumbing shop has a different question: what will this cost in a normal month, what will it cost in the week the phone melts, and is it worth more than the calls it saves?
What published guides say a small shop pays
Pricing guides for 2026 put AI receptionists for small home service businesses at roughly $30 to $200 a month, with human-backed options costing more. Those guides are mostly written by vendors, so treat the numbers as ranges and confirm current prices on each provider’s site. A rough picture:
- Budget plans: from about $30 to $50 a month, often message taking or a texted booking link rather than calendar booking.
- Mid-range flat plans: about $79 to $199 a month, usually adding calendar booking and call transfer.
- Human-backed plans: more again, and some rise in busy periods.
For a solo or small shop with modest call volume, the guides suggest starting around $50 to $100 a month. Shops that need after hours emergency handling, software integrations or a human fallback should expect more.
Three things that change the real bill
1. The pricing unit
A plan priced in minutes, calls or interactions behaves very differently from a flat plan. A cheap looking price per minute can cost more once call volume rises.
2. Overage
Ask what a minute over the allowance costs, and whether calls keep being answered or the service bills automatically. Some guides cite overage rates from $0.20 to $0.50 a minute on AI plans, and much higher on live services.
3. Add-ons
Some AI tools need a separate phone subscription, bill per user or charge for text messages. Add those to the headline price before comparing.
A worked example for a one truck shop
Say you take 30 calls a week and miss about a third while you are on jobs. That is roughly 10 missed calls a week. If even two of those would have booked a $400 job, you lose about $800 a week, which is far more than any plan above. The point is not that the numbers are exact. It is that the monthly price should be compared with the value of one or two jobs, not with other price lists.

What Ansdale costs
Ansdale is $49, $99 or $199 a month with 100, 250 or 500 AI call minutes included. Booking is included on every plan. There is no setup fee and no contract. Extra minutes are billed at a flat per-minute rate rather than cutting calls off, and if you regularly run over, moving up a tier is usually cheaper. See the plans.
