Yes, Housecall Pro has an AI receptionist. It’s called CSR AI, short for Customer Service Rep AI, and it’s part of what Housecall Pro calls its AI Team. It answers calls for your business, can book and estimate jobs straight into Housecall Pro, and escalates calls it shouldn’t handle. What Housecall Pro doesn’t do is publish the price, which is the first thing most contractors want to know.
Here’s what CSR AI does according to Housecall Pro’s own help center and pricing page (checked 19 October 2026), what it’s likely to cost you all-in, and when a different setup makes more sense. A disclosure: we make Ansdale, a standalone AI receptionist, so we’ve stuck to Housecall Pro’s own published information for the facts.
What CSR AI does
- Answers calls and website chats for your business, around the clock.
- Books and estimates jobs in Housecall Pro, and can reschedule or cancel if you allow it.
- Escalates calls to a number you choose, to Housecall Pro’s optional human service (HCP Assist), or ends the call and sends you notes.
- Handles after hours differently. Housecall Pro says live escalation happens during your company hours. After hours, it can call you, text you or leave a note, and emergency handling is always on.
- Reports on itself: calls and chats handled, jobs and estimates booked, booking conversion and revenue.
To use it, you forward your calls to a Housecall Pro forwarding number set up for CSR AI. Housecall Pro says that number is only for CSR AI and shouldn’t go on your marketing, and your escalation number has to be a different number.
Two gaps worth knowing. Housecall Pro’s help center (updated July 2026) listed texting and Spanish as “coming soon”, so check whether either is live before you count on it. And its own pages differ on whether the AI always introduces itself as AI or whether you choose the greeting. Several states care about AI and recording disclosure, so ask.
How much does Housecall Pro’s AI receptionist cost?
Housecall Pro’s help center says the AI Team is included with your account, except CSR AI’s 24/7 call answering, which is an optional add-on. The pricing page lists CSR AI as an add-on but shows no price, and you’re pointed to sales for a quote.
You also need a Housecall Pro subscription. Plans start at $59 a month billed annually ($79 month to month) for Basic, with Essentials and Max costing more. There’s a 14-day free trial. So the honest all-in figure is your Housecall Pro plan plus a CSR AI price you’ll only learn from a sales call.
When you get that quote, ask four things: whether it’s priced per call, per minute or flat; what happens in a month when calls double; whether spam calls count; and whether there’s a minimum term.
Who CSR AI is a good fit for
If you already run your whole business in Housecall Pro, CSR AI has an obvious advantage: the booking lands in the same system your techs, invoices and customer history live in. No sync, no double entry. If you’re happy to forward calls to a Housecall Pro number and you’re comfortable getting a price from sales, it’s the natural first thing to try.
When to look at something else
- You’re not on Housecall Pro. Then CSR AI isn’t an option, and paying for a field service platform just to get an AI receptionist rarely makes sense.
- You want a published, flat price before talking to anyone.
- You need texting or Spanish today, rather than when they ship.
- You want escalation to work the same at 2 a.m. as at 2 p.m.
Using a third-party AI receptionist with Housecall Pro
Some AI answering services connect to Housecall Pro directly. Smith.ai, for example, has published an integration that logs calls in Housecall Pro, creates client records and books through your Housecall Pro online booking. Integrations like this usually rely on Housecall Pro’s API, and Housecall Pro’s pricing page lists open API access (and Zapier) on its Max plan, so check your plan before you buy.
To be straight about our own product: Ansdale doesn’t connect natively to Housecall Pro today. It answers your existing number, books into its own calendar with two-way Google Calendar sync, and can send booking details out by webhook. That suits contractors who aren’t on a big field service platform, or who want a flat price ($49, $99 or $199 a month with booking on every plan). If Housecall Pro is the centre of your business, CSR AI or an integrated service is likely the better fit.
CSR AI vs a standalone AI receptionist
| Housecall Pro CSR AI | Standalone AI receptionist | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Not published; Housecall Pro plan required (from $59/mo billed annually) | Usually published; for example Ansdale is $49 to $199/mo |
| Where bookings land | Housecall Pro schedule | The service’s own calendar, Google Calendar, or your software through an integration |
| Phone number | Forward to a Housecall Pro number | Usually forward your existing line |
| Best for | Shops that run everything in Housecall Pro | Shops not on Housecall Pro, or wanting a flat price |
