If you already run your shop in Jobber, its AI receptionist is the obvious thing to try first. It books straight into the schedule you already use, it recognizes your existing clients when they call, and it’s a $29 add-on rather than another login. For a lot of Jobber users that’s the right answer, and we’ll say so below.
But there are good reasons to look elsewhere: you’re not on Jobber, you’re thinking of leaving it, your call volume doesn’t fit the way it’s billed, or you want a person behind the AI for difficult calls. This guide covers what Jobber Receptionist actually costs and needs, when it’s the right pick, and four alternatives with prices checked on each vendor’s own site on 19 October 2026. One of those alternatives is Ansdale, which is ours, so weigh our take accordingly.
What does Jobber Receptionist cost, and what do you get?
From Jobber’s pricing page and help center, checked on 19 October 2026:
- Price: $29 a month as an add-on on select plans. It’s included with unlimited usage on Jobber’s Plus plan.
- Usage: Jobber’s help center gives two different numbers. Its Receptionist article (updated 9 July 2026) says the add-on includes 30 conversations, then $0.79 for each extra conversation. Its add-ons article (updated 13 August 2026) says 100 conversations a month. Ask Jobber which applies to your account before you budget. Conversations tagged as spam or “no conversation” don’t count.
- Phone number: it answers calls and texts on a dedicated Jobber phone number. You can keep your existing number by forwarding it, but Jobber says the dedicated number is still required. Those numbers are available in the US, Canada and the UK.
- Booking: it books visits using the online booking settings you’ve set up in Jobber, so new work lands in your Jobber schedule and client list.
- Urgent calls: you set keywords such as “emergency,” “no heat” or “burst pipe,” and it transfers those calls or texts you.
- The base plan: you need a Jobber subscription underneath. For one user, plans ran from $29 a month (Core, billed annually) to $149 a month (Grow, billed annually), with first-year promotional prices showing when we checked.
The conversation count matters more than the $29. Say you get 60 calls and texts a month. If the 30-conversation figure applies, that’s $29 plus 30 extra at $0.79, or $52.70. If the 100-conversation figure applies, it’s $29. Either is cheap. Just know which one you’re on.
When is Jobber Receptionist the right choice?
- You run quoting, scheduling and invoicing in Jobber already and you’re staying.
- You want bookings to show up in Jobber with no copying or connecting tools.
- You’re on the Plus plan, where it’s included.
- Your volume is modest and you don’t mind calls routing through a Jobber number.
If that’s you, start there. Run it for a couple of weeks, call it yourself at 9 p.m. with an awkward question, and see how it handles a caller who rambles. You’ll know fast.
Why do contractors look for an alternative?
- You’re not on Jobber. Receptionist only works on top of a Jobber plan. If you run your business on Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, a spreadsheet or a paper calendar, it’s not an option. (We looked at the Housecall Pro AI receptionist separately.)
- You might switch software. When the receptionist is part of your field service platform, your phone setup leaves with it. Some owners would rather keep the two separate.
- You want a person on the hard calls. Upset customers, insurance questions, a commercial client who expects a human. Jobber’s tool is AI only.
- The billing model doesn’t suit you. Conversations count calls and texts. If your customers text a lot, or a storm week doubles your calls, a minutes-based or flat plan may be easier to predict.
What are the alternatives, and what do they cost?

| Upfirst | $24.95, $59.95, $159.95 or $299/mo | Calls: 30, 90, 300 or 600 | Appointment scheduling listed on every plan |

Ansdale: a standalone AI receptionist for trades
Ours, so read with that in mind. Ansdale answers your existing line through ordinary call forwarding, in your business name, 24/7. You write the rules for what counts as an emergency, and those calls go to your phone. Everything else gets booked into the calendar during the call, and because it reads your Google Calendar before offering a time, it won’t sell a slot you’ve blocked off. Plans are $49, $99 and $199 a month for 100, 250 and 500 AI call minutes, booking on every plan, month to month.
The honest trade-off for a Jobber shop: Ansdale isn’t Jobber. Bookings land in Ansdale’s calendar and Google Calendar, and getting them into Jobber means sending the details across with a webhook or a tool like Zapier, or copying them. If you live in Jobber all day, that extra step is a real cost. Our Jobber AI receptionist comparison goes through it line by line.
Rosie: lots of minutes, read the booking line
Rosie gives you 250 minutes for $49, 1,000 for $149 and 2,000 for $299, with a 7-day free trial. The $49 plan sends callers an appointment link by text; booking straight onto your calendar is on the $149 plan. If your customers are happy to book from a link, the entry plan is good value. If they’d rather you just pick a time, budget for the middle tier.
Upfirst: cheapest way in at low volume
Upfirst counts calls, not minutes: 30 calls for $24.95 a month ($1.50 for each extra), 90 for $59.95, 300 for $159.95 and 600 for $299. Appointment scheduling and a Zapier integration are listed on every plan. If you get a call or two a day, it’s hard to beat on price. Once you’re well past 90 calls a month, do the sum against a minutes plan.
Smith.ai: when you want a human in the loop
Smith.ai sells both. Its AI receptionist is free for 25 calls a month ($3 a call after that), then Pro starts at $150 for 75 calls. Its live receptionists start at $300 a month for 30 calls, with extra calls at $11.50, and booking appointments is a $1.50-a-call add-on. It’s the priciest option here for a busy contractor, but it’s the one to pick if your callers regularly need a person. We broke down Smith.ai pricing in more detail.
How do you pick between them?
- On Jobber, staying on Jobber, modest volume: Jobber Receptionist first. It’s the least work.
- On Jobber, but you want the AI on your own number with trade-specific emergency rules and flat minutes: try a standalone tool and connect it, and accept a bit of double entry.
- Not on Jobber at all: pick on how your phone rings. Few short calls, Upfirst. Lots of minutes, Rosie. Calendar booking on the cheapest plan and trade setup, Ansdale.
- Callers who need a person: Smith.ai’s live receptionists.
If you’re reconsidering Jobber itself, not just its phone add-on, our Jobber alternatives page covers the software side, and our roundup of the best AI answering services for small business covers more phone options.
Can you run a different AI receptionist alongside Jobber?
Yes, and plenty of shops do. You forward your business line to the AI receptionist, it answers and books, and the booking details go to Jobber through a webhook or Zapier, or someone copies them over at the end of the day. Jobber keeps doing what it’s good at: quotes, invoices, payments and crews.
The catch is two calendars. If a tech’s day changes in Jobber and the receptionist can’t see it, you’ll get a booking in a slot that’s no longer free. Before you commit, test that exact case: block out an afternoon in the calendar the receptionist reads, then call and ask for that afternoon.
Questions people ask
How much does Jobber’s AI receptionist cost?
Jobber lists Receptionist at $29 a month as an add-on on select plans, and it’s included on the Plus plan. Its help center says the add-on includes 30 conversations with extras at $0.79 each in one article and 100 conversations a month in another, so confirm with Jobber. You also need a Jobber subscription.
Do I need a new phone number for Jobber Receptionist?
Jobber says a dedicated Jobber phone number is required. You can keep your existing number by forwarding it to that dedicated number, so customers keep calling the number they already know.
What is the best Jobber AI receptionist alternative?
It depends on your volume and whether you stay on Jobber. Upfirst is cheapest for a few calls a day, Rosie gives the most minutes, Smith.ai adds live receptionists, and Ansdale, which is ours, books into your calendar on every plan with trade emergency rules.
Can I use a different AI receptionist with Jobber?
Yes. Forward your line to the AI receptionist and send booking details into Jobber with a webhook or Zapier, or copy them over. Test that the receptionist can see time you’ve blocked off so it doesn’t double-book a tech.
